The 900 series airplanes are descended from the first trijet Falcon, the Falcon 50, which was certified in the mid-1970s. If you see a Falcon family resemblance in the 900, you’re right. We flew one of the first production models out of Dassault Falcon Jet’s Teterboro, New Jersey, headquarters recently and got the chance to see how Dassault improved the model in a number of ingenious ways. It is also the first Falcon to earn certification with the new EASy II avionics system. The most recently certified model to carry the Falcon name into flight is the 900LX, which earned FAA and EASA certification just last year. The light-large 2000S - a large airplane for a super-midsize price, says Falcon - is slated for certification next year. In addition to the 900 series, Falcon fields just two other model types, the ultralong-range Falcon 7X with fly-by-wire flight controls and the widebody, twin-engine Falcon 2000EX. ![]() The list of current Falcon jets is as elegant as it is short. It’s also a pioneer in aviation manufacturing processes, it developed the process for computer aided aircraft design, and it has done much to advance the state of the art in avionics and aircraft-human interfaces. The company manufactures not just bizjets but fighter jets as well. In addition to high style, the Falcon name brings with it the reputation for performance and innovation. But one could make a compelling argument that his company’s designs have embodied that ideal like no one else has. Surely he wasn’t the first aircraft designer to equate aesthetics with performance, and just as surely he won’t be the last. That kind of range is new for the 900 series, and what enables such numbers are new winglets, the first on a new Falcon jet. It is a popular choice for buyers looking for an ocean-hopping airplane with a big range - 4,750 nm - a fabulous cabin and all the latest safety features. Dassault offers a range of six business jets from the twin-engine 3,350 nm large-cabin Falcon 2000S to its flagship, the tri-engine 6,450 nm ultra-long range Falcon 8X and the new ultra widebody cabin Falcon 6X.The Falcon 900LX, certified late last year, is the latest entry in Dassault‘s lineup of triengine, wide-body, long-range business jets. Since the rollout of the first Falcon 20 in 1963, over 2,500 Falcon jets have been delivered. The company employs a workforce of over 12,500 and has assembly and production plants in both France and the United States and service facilities around the globe. It produces the Rafale fighter jet as well as the complete line of Falcons. Capacity is 13.5 cubic meters or 6,325 lbs (2,884 kg).ĭFS specializes in the maintenance, repair and overhaul, refurbishment and modification of Falcon aircraft and on-demand charter activities.ĭassault Aviation is a leading aerospace company with a presence in over 90 countries across five continents. Flying these materials in a converted business jet is considerably faster and provides greater flexibility than commercial airfreight or ground transport. The aircraft is being used to transport fabric needed for the production of face masks to a plant in Eastern Europe and to return completed masks for distribution in France, North Africa and other areas stricken by the Covid-19 pandemic or recovering from the coronavirus lockdown. The modification involved customer service, engineering and operating teams from DFS as well as test and certification resources from Dassault Aviation. No major modifications to access doors or other systems were undertaken and the conversion is readily reversible back to passenger configuration. ![]() The project entailed stripping passenger seats and furnishings and installing equipment to stow and secure freight. The conversion, involving a company-owned aircraft, took eight days from reception of the order to approval by French Civil Aviation authorities, granted under a fast-track exemption. Dassault Falcon Service (DFS), a Dassault Aviation subsidiary based in Paris-Le Bourget, recently completed the conversion of a Falcon 900B from passenger configuration to full cargo in record time.
